ROOTED IN REFLECTION:
DEVELOPING MY PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY
DURING MY FIRST YEAR AS AN INTERPRETER

December 2020

The aim of this action research is to explore the experiences of a new interpreter teaming with more experienced interpreters in a variety of settings. The final project will be an exploration of the relationship between a new interpreter’s perception of their team’s experience and openness, the the new interpreter’s overall confidence in the setting or situation, and self-efficacy in decision making in that situation. The paper will be added below when it is available online.

ENGLISH TO ASL WORK SAMPLE

January 2019

My senior year at WOU, I had the opportunity to prep, rehearse, and interpret a TED talk for the TedxSalem Event. This event was recorded live with my simultaneous interpretation, and a picture-in-picture interpretation was recorded and added after the fact.

UK HONORS RESEARCH THESIS

May 2016

Collaboration with Dr. Christia Brown - one of the field's leading developmental and social psychologists. Analyzed data and presented results in various forms: a written research paper, a formal presentation of research to faculty panel, and an informal poster presentation. Full poster available upon request.

WOU UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

December 2017

In-depth literature review of the importance of interpreters in schools for families with Deaf and Hard of Hearing members, in order to best allow parents access to the education of their children. Framework for potential future research. Presented in a research paper as well as a poster presentation.
